Description

This slow cooker Texas pulled pork recipe is a classic American barbecue dish that is easy to make and absolutely delicious. It is made with pork shoulder, which is marinated in a mixture of spices, then cooked low and slow in a slow cooker until it’s tender and juicy. The pork is then “pulled” or shredded by hand, making it perfect for tacos, sandwiches, and more. This is one of those recipes that everyone needs to have in their back pocket!

Ingredients

For the pork:

  • 3-4 pound boneless pork shoulder
  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin

For the sauce:
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin

Instructions

1. Start by preparing the pork. Pat the pork shoulder dry with a paper towel and then season it with the salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, and cumin. Massage the spices into the pork and then place it in the slow cooker.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, and cumin. Pour the sauce over the pork in the slow cooker and stir to combine.

3. Cook the pork on low heat for 8-10 hours, or until it is very tender and easily shreds with a fork.

4. When the pork is done, remove it from the slow cooker and let it cool slightly before shredding it with two forks.

5. Serve the pulled pork on tacos, sandwiches, nachos, or however you'd like!
