Description

Mutton curry is a traditional Indian dish that can be cooked in a slow cooker for an easy and delicious meal. This recipe is a combination of aromatic spices, tender mutton, and creamy yogurt that creates a flavorful curry that can be served with rice, naan, or roti. The slow cooker allows the flavors to combine and the meat to become incredibly tender, making it the perfect comfort food.

Ingredients

For the curry, you will need: 2 lbs of mutton, 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, 1 large onion, minced, 2 cloves of garlic, minced, 1 tablespoon of grated ginger, 1 teaspoon of ground cumin, 1 teaspoon of ground coriander, 1 teaspoon of garam masala, 1 teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon of red chili powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 cup of plain yogurt, and 1 cup of water.

Instructions

1. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and ginger and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.

2. Add the cumin, coriander, garam masala, turmeric, black pepper, and red chili powder. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until fragrant.

3. Transfer the mixture to a slow cooker. Add the mutton, yogurt, and water. Stir to combine.

4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for 8-10 hours.

5. Serve with rice, naan, or roti.

Equipment

For this recipe, you will need a large skillet and a slow cooker.

Notes

If you don’t have a slow cooker, you can also cook the curry on the stovetop. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Follow the instructions as listed above, but reduce the cooking time to about 1 hour.
