Description

If you are looking for a healthier alternative to the traditional orange chicken, then this light orange chicken recipe is the perfect way to indulge in all the flavors without the guilt. This quick and easy recipe is full of flavor thanks to the sweet and tangy orange sauce, which is made with fresh orange juice, garlic, ginger, and soy sauce. The chicken itself is lightly coated in a flour and cornstarch mixture and pan-fried in oil to give it a crisp and crunchy texture. Serve this light orange chicken with a side of rice or noodles for a complete meal.

Ingredients

For the chicken:

-2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces

-2 tablespoons cornstarch

-2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

-1 teaspoon salt

-2 tablespoons vegetable oil

For the orange sauce:

-1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice

-2 tablespoons honey

-2 tablespoons soy sauce

-2 cloves garlic, minced

-1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger

-1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

-1 tablespoon cornstarch

-1 tablespoon cold water

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch, flour, and salt. Add the chicken pieces and toss to coat.

2.Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

3.In a small saucepan, combine the orange juice, honey, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil over high heat and stir until combined. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.

4.In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water until smooth. Slowly add the cornstarch mixture to the saucepan and stir until combined. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

5.Return the chicken to the skillet and pour the orange sauce over the chicken. Cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the chicken is coated in the sauce.

6.Serve the light orange chicken over rice or noodles.
