Cooked Homemade Eggnog Recipe
Description
Eggnog is a creamy and rich beverage made with milk, cream, sugar, and eggs. It is usually served cold, but it can also be enjoyed warm. This recipe for cooked homemade eggnog is particularly special because it includes the extra step of cooking the egg mixture, which gives the drink a rich, custardy flavor. The drink is also spiced with nutmeg and cinnamon, making it an ideal winter beverage.
Ingredients
For the cooked eggnog, you’ll need the following ingredients: 4 eggs, 1/4 cup of sugar, 2 cups of milk, 1/2 cup of heavy cream, 2 teaspoons of ground nutmeg, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract.
Instructions
1. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Gradually add the milk and heavy cream, whisking to combine.
2. Transfer the egg mixture to a medium-sized saucepan and heat over medium-low heat. Stir constantly with a wooden spoon, being careful not to let the mixture come to a boil. Once the mixture has thickened, remove it from the heat.
3. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bowl. Add the nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla extract, and stir to combine.
4. Let the eggnog cool to room temperature, then chill in the refrigerator for at least four hours. Serve cold, or warm up in a saucepan over low heat.
